Discussion Topic |
| "What is standing in the way of
widespread adoption of thermal waste conversion technologies?" |
Background Information |
| There is great potential for technology that converts
waste into energy. Such technology could simultaneously reduce excess
waste and provide a solution to increasing energy demands. Yet the gap
between the theoretical science and viable technology is still wide.
What hurdles need to be overcome in order to make this technology a
reality? The technology is still not commercially deployable and
remains technically challenging at a large scale. Government
regulations for waste management are also problematic. Furthermore,
with the technology at such an early stage, financing waste to energy
projects can be difficult. With respect to these obstacles, how are
people advancing in this field and what can be done to remove these
barriers? |
