Discussion Topic |
| "Is desalination the solution to the
water stress and water deficiency with which California is faced?" |
Background Information |
| Many countries in the Middle East have turned to water
desalination as a solution to their water crises. Water desalination is
an energy intensive and thus, expensive, process. Yet, as California
faces its own water crisis and searches for solutions, to what extent
will water desalination play a role in the U.S.? Has there been any
recent technological breakthroughs that make desalination economically
viable? Since it is so expensive, what is the bulk of the costs and is
it possible to trim these costs down? What are the current policies
towards credit and reimbursement for desalination technologies? |
